Khmer water festival

Did you know that the Water Festival, also known as Bon Om Tok was first celebrated in the 12th century, around the time of Angkorian King Jayavarman VII. There are several stories surrounding the Water festival but the most common belief is that the festival was to mark the victory of the Khmer navy, which liberated their land from the Cham troops of the Champa Kingdom in a boat battle on the Tonle Sap Lake. These days the festival goes for three days and marks the end of the rainy season as well as the change in flow of the Tonlé Sap River. Happy Water Festival everyone.
